Commission Talks Downtown Signage, New Projects

Owensboro Seal 01 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (8/13/13) -- New directory signs for the downtown riverfront district were discussed in Tuesday’s City Commission work session. The signs and logos are in the first phase of design. So far, the Owensboro Downtown Revitalization group has proposed that the signs will feature a map of the downtown area, directional arrows for easy access to city destinations, and will light up at night.

“They (the signs) will be signaling that this area is important,” Joe Berry, Project Manager for Owensboro Downtown Revitalization, said.

The revitalization group is also working on an app available for smart phones users to show a map of the downtown area and for subscribers to receive “push notifications” for events going on in the city.

The indoor tennis courts being built by the Owensboro Daviess County Tennis Association were also discussed in a city project update. The indoor facility will hold six courts and will be located next to the newly renovated courts at Moreland Park. The indoor tennis facility is thought to be finished and ready for players in October 2014.

The next City Commission meeting will be held Tuesday, Aug., 20, at 5 p.m.
