OWENSBORO, Ky. (8/20/13) -- Tuesday marked the first day of phase two of the demolition process on the property of First Christian Church.
The church, which caught fire in March, recently underwent phase one of cleanup that consisted of proper disposal of air conditioner units and saving decorative items for the future rebuilding effort. The west wall of the church was also removed.
Demolition started on the south side of the educational building today (Tuesday) and will progress north and east from there. Remnants that have a salvage value will be collected and sold at auction The funds raised from items sold will be used to pay for demolition costs.
The public and congregation are strongly encouraged not to access the property during the dangerous demolition process.
