In a statement released shortly after noon by Owensboro Catholic High School Principal, Gates E. Settle, he said:

"Earlier today, OCHS was notified by (Owensboro Police Department) of a man with a weapon in Moreland Park. We immediately made the decision to put the high school in lockdown mode...As always, our number one concern is always our students and staffs safety and we will always take the needed precautions to insure their safety."
