OWENSBORO, Ky. (9/9/13) - One man died and two other were injured Sunday night at the Windy Hollow Race Track, Daviess County Sheriff's Department authorities said today. Deputies responded to a call at the track shortly before 10 p.m.
Daviess County Coroner Jeff Jones told SurfKY News that Ryan Peters, 21, died of internal injuries as a result of the accident. Additionally, James Wilson and Jacob Ulrich were both taken to a local hospital to treat minor injuries but have since been released. Authorities said Carmen Cauley refused medical treatment on the scene.
Daviess County Sheriff's Office issued a news release regarding the incident.
"Deputies spoke to several people and it appears that a car on the track may have been struck by another car. The car that was struck then hit the wall in one of the turns. After striking the wall and a utility pole, the car then struck several spectators. The spectators were observing the race from the pit area of the track," authorities stated in the release. "The Daviess County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate and interview those involved. The Daviess County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone that may have any type of video recording of the race and/or accident to contact Corporal Nick Roby of the Daviess County Sheriff's Office at 270-685-8444."
