The Ohio County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies responded to a request for a welfare check just after 10 p.m. Saturday night at a residence in the 2000 block of Easton Rd. in Fordsville. While conducting the search, they discovered the human remains.
Authorities said a neighbor of Patricia Ritz told authorities he was concerned because he hadn’t seen her in several days, and that the last time they spoke she had said she wasn’t feeling well. Police said foul play isn’t suspected at this time, nor did they find "any indication of… criminal acts." The investigation is continuing.
Also found at the scene were between 15 to 25 dogs Ritz owned at the residence. Police said the Ohio County Animal Control agency was notified and personnel from the agency were dispatched to recover the animals.
Sheriff David Thompson, Detective Tim Hatfield, and Coroner Larry Bevil assisted at the scene.
