Exclusive First Look in Owensboro Convention Center Before Opening Weekend Events

Owensboro CC 2014 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (1/28/14) - Just a few days shy of the grand opening of the Owensboro Convention Center this weekend, SurfKY News viewed the highly anticipated meeting and event space during a walking tour Tuesday, Jan. 28.

The first floor of the building holds a small cyber café, lobby area with walls filled with modern art, and three exhibition halls separated to hold trade shows such as the Agriculture Expo, in town this weekend.

The second floor is a full floor open to a bigger exhibit hall.

Floor three holds space for two large ballrooms (which can be separated), and a Riverview Room, all with an open view of the riverfront.

  • On Friday, Jan. 31, the Owensboro Convention Center will host a grand gala with a performance from country music recording artist, Sara Evans.
  • Saturday, Feb. 1 the convention center will have their official ribbon cutting from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and an open house tour will follow. Marty Brown and The Willis Clan will hold free concerts in the exhibit halls later that night.
  • Sunday, Feb. 2, the convention center will be open to the general public from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with Super Bowl celebrations from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Just a little more than 72 hours until the opening, Madison Strobel, Marketing and PR Manager for the Owensboro Convention Center and Global Spectrum said the team is still hard at work.

"There is a lot of fine tuning to be done before the weekend, but we are really close to being ready to go," said Strobel.

Visit Owensboro Convention Center for more information for tickets and events.
