Decade-long Tennis Court Dream Comes to Fruition

tennis(Photo courtesy Dennis Beard)OWENSBORO, Ky. (4/25/14) — A vision of the development of an indoor/outdoor tennis court complex became a reality today, after almost a decade of designing, planning and fundraising.

City and county officials, contractors and others who helped work to see the idea come to fruition gathered at Schiffley Park on Bittel Road today for an honorary groundbreaking ceremony.

The roughly $4 million complex will include three indoor tennis courts and nine outdoor.

As part of the deal, Owensboro Public Schools agreed to “swap” the undeveloped site for the city owned baseball and soccer field, which OPS had been leasing the use of, OPS Superintendent Nick Brake said at the event.
