UPDATE: OWENSBORO, KY. (5/8/14) 6 P.M. — The Owensboro Police Department Hazardous Devices Unit responded to the scene of the suspicious briefcase left at the Colonel House Motel Thursday afternoon in Owensboro.
According to a press release from Owensboro Police Department Richard Glenn, the hazardous devices unit opened the briefcase and rendered its contents safe with a disruptor. An investigation is ongoing to determine if the contents were hazardous, who the owner may be and if criminal charges will be made.

UPDATE: OWENSBORO, Ky. (5/8/14) – A maid cleaning rooms at the Colonel House Motel on Triplett alerted police after she discovered what authorities described as a “suspicious briefcase.”
Owensboro Police Department Sgt. Richard Glenn told SurfKY News police responded to the scene, evacuated the motel and alerted nearby businesses about the situation.
They then closed direct access along Triplett between 18th and 19th streets.
As of 2:30 this afternoon, Owensboro Police Department bomb squad personnel were prepping for removal and investigation of the item.

OWENSBORO, Ky. (5/8/14) 2:45 p.m. — Police have closed off part of Triplett Street due to the discovery of a suspicious package.

Police have closed Triplett between 18th and 19th streets while the bomb squad investigates.
