BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (7/21/14) — The Owensboro Southern 11-year-old All-Stars pulled away to beat defending state champion Paintsville 10-4 in the Little League State Tournament at Ephram White Park in Bowling Green Saturday.
After pitching 3 2/3 innings, Owensboro Southern hurler Ethan Gibson claimed the win. Gibson was also a leader at the plate, finishing with 2-for-2 with a home run, a triple and a game-high four RBIs.
Owensboro Southern limited state tournament opponent Paintsville to three hits.
At the plate, Owensboro Southern batters also stepped up and provided highly-productive at-bats. Numerous Owensboro Southern batters contributed in the 10-run effort.
Koki Kato went 3-for-3 with a double for Owensboro Southern in the win.
Tanner Klee followed, finishing 2-for-3 for the Owensboro Southern baseball team.
Chipping in offensively, Grant Oller, Jacob Hunt and Hayden Bullis delivered one RBI apiece for the Owensboro Southern contingent in the win.
Gibson was one of three Owensboro Southern pitchers to work innings in the tournament contest.Klee worked out of a relief role and Oller took on the role of a closer in the contest.
