OWENSBORO, Ky. (8/29/14) — An Owensboro woman was charged with two counts of first degree assault following an investigation into injuries a three-year-old child was treated for at Owensboro Health before the boy was transported to Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville for additional testing.
Owensboro Police said Laraine Huffman, 45, was charged after an investigation into the child’s injuries allegedly determined he had suffered a skull fracture that caused substantial risk of physical injury or death. Police also alleged the child, who wasn’t identified, had sustained an injury to his right arm and clavicle, which resulted in serious physical injury and a prolonged impairment of health.
The investigation began after the child was brought to the Owensboro Health emergency room with multiple bruising all over his body. Police said tests performed determined he had an elevated CK level, which indicated sufficient muscle damage and placed his kidneys at risk for failure.Authorities declined to comment further on the case.
