Second Event at Owensboro Convention Center Announced

oboro conv ctr 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (5/6/13) – An event organizers and convention center officials jokingly referred to as “sure to float your boat” was the focus of an news conference held this afternoon at Smothers Park.

City officials, Owensboro Convention Center staff, and Pro-Tech Marine – the business hosting the event – gathered at the park to announce their plans to host a boat and recreation show early next year.

“It’s something that I have personally been working on for years,” Pro-Tech Marine owner Ken Bruce said in a prepared statement issued at the announcement. “Once I heard that the new Owensboro Convention Center was being built, I started making plans for the show.”

The boat show is scheduled to be held from Feb. 27 to March 2, 2014. It’s the second event convention center organizers have announced so far. About a month ago, staff and city officials gathered at Owensboro RV to announce their plans for an outdoor hunting and fishing expo in early February 2014.

The convention center is expected to be completed and opened by January of 2014. In the meantime, center staff are continuing to work to book events in advance of the completion date.
