Nick Brake Accepts OPS Offer for Superintendent Position

nick signing1 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (5/13/13) – In a special called meeting this evening, the Owensboro Board of Education elected Nick Brake as its new Superintendent of Schools.

Brake, one of three finalists in the board’s search for new leadership, was offered a four-year contract. OPS Board Chairperson Nancy Eskridge said the contract offers Brake a salary of $144,000, with the possibility of a merit increase after two years “if the board deems it applicable.” Brake will succeed current superintendent Larry Vick, who submitted his letter of resignation in January after 12 years in that position.

Brake addressed the crowd gathered at the central office Monday night, thanking the board for the opportunity. He was decidedly optimistic about the new position.

“I’m ready to go,” said Brake. “It’s an honor and a privilege to serve the community in this role.”

Brake currently serves as the president and CEO of the Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation, a post he has held since 2006.
