OWENSBORO, Ky. (5/22/13) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has scheduled a public informational meeting this Thursday to present results of alignment studies for reconstruction of a section of Ky. Hwy. 144 near the intersection with Pleasant Valley Road in Daviess County. The project is aimed at improving safety by realigning several curves along about a 1-mile section of Ky. Hwy. 144 between mile point 6.3 and mile point 7.3.
A meeting last December allowed public input on preliminary roadway alignments that were being studied. According to KYTC District 2 Project Development Engineer John Rudd, this meeting is to share the final alignment for the project.
“We fully developed one of the proposed alignments based on feedback we received from the public back in December. This public meeting on Thursday, May 23, will show the actual alignment of the road as it is to be built,” Rudd said. “We will share maps and renderings that indicate all of the property that that will be impacted along the project. This meeting is a great time for property owners to view the project, and gain a better understanding of the design before right of way acquisition begins.”
Anyone having an interest in the project is urged to attend the meeting. The meeting will be an informal “come and go” format, with opportunities to view displays, interact with engineers and staff working on design of the project, ask questions, and make comments.
Rudd expects acquisition of necessary property along the Ky. Hwy. 144 project will begin this summer. That would set the stage for the project to move to construction sometime in 2014.
The public meeting will run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, at the Knottsville Fire Department located at 9436 Hwy. 144 in Knottsville.
A handout and comment sheet/questionnaire will be provided. A court stenographer will be available for those who desire to make oral statements and a comment sheet will be distributed to make it more convenient to provide written comments. Displays illustrating the results of the alignment studies for reconstruction of this project will be available for review.
Anyone who is unable to attend the meeting may offer comments in writing before June 7, 2013 to John Rudd, Branch Manager Project Development, Department of Highways District 2 Office, 1840 North Main Street, Madisonville, Kentucky 42431-5003.
Displays and other materials presented at the Public Meeting also will be available at the District 2 Office in Madisonville during the same time period. Office hours for the Department of Highways District 2 Office are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Comments also can be provided at the time of visit.
