ron payne 300OWENSBORO, KY (12/1/11) - Ron Payne has made it official this week that he will seek re-election to his current post as mayor of Owensboro next year. Payne, the driving force behind the downtown renovation projects, originally said that his intent was to be simply a one-term mayor. However, Monday, Payne officially announced his candidacy for re-election to the office of mayor.

Payne has been quoted as saying that he and his supporters now feel that there is so much left to accomplish in the downtown re-development project that it would be unwise to have the office switch hands without seeking re-election to finish what he started.

Former Owensboro mayor, Tom Watson, was rumored to be considering another run for the mayor’s office, but put an end to that possibility earlier this week when he officially made it known that he would not seek re-election in 2012.
