Explosion at Industrial Plant Sends Three to the Hospital

factoryplantHENDERSON, KY (12/8/11) – Three men were sent to the hospital Wednesday following an explosion and fire at Polymer Partners LLC on Commonwealth Drive near KY-136 in Henderson Corporate Park. Officials say the incident occurred around 2 p.m. CST and was the result of an equipment malfunction inside the plant.

Polymer Partners produces black concentrates and colorant here in Henderson for North and South American companies. The polymer company manufactures specialty compounds, including conventional and super conductive black resins, and offers tolling services for its clients.

According to Henderson County Emergency Management Director Larry Koerber, ambulances transported three men to Methodist Hospital in Henderson after sustaining burns in the explosion. Two of the three were airlifted to the burn intensive care unit at University of Louisville Hospital for extensive injuries. Two others were treated at the scene and released.
