live grenadeOWENSBORO, KY (12/13/11) - On December 12, 2011, at approximately 1:00 PM, the Owensboro Police Department responded to the VFW at 311 West Veteran’s Boulevard in response to a Bomb call.

Upon arrival officers were advised by a member of the VFW that a citizen brought a suspected World War II era hand grenade to them to be displayed as a memorabilia item. The item was placed outside until officers could arrive.

A bomb squad technician with the Owensboro Police Department inspected the item and believed it to be a live hand grenade. It was treated as such and safely removed without incident.
