OWENSBORO, KY (12/23/11) – The fate of the National Guard Armory is in limbo right now, as the city tries to make a decision about that to do with the building after the National Guard unit located in Owensboro moves into its new readiness center just off Carter Road.
The city of Owensboro agreed to purchase the more than fifty year old building in an agreement with the state of Kentucky to have the new armory/readiness center built in Owensboro.
Sources tell SurfKY News that several organizations have expressed interest in buying the building located on Parrish Avenue across from Moreland Park; however a decision will not be made until early in 2012. Several sources also tell SurfKY News that the building has sever structural damage, and may not be suitable for inhabitation after the National Guard takes occupation of the new Readiness center next year.
