Baptist Health to Offer Lung Cancer Screenings

Baptist Health Paducah 300PADUCAH, Ky. (3/18/13) – More than 80 percent of lung cancers have a chance of being cured, if detected early. So Baptist Health Paducah will offer that chance with a newly-recommended, low-dose lung CT screening, beginning next month.

The screening will be available for $200 to those who meet these criteria:
• Current or former heavy smokers
• 55 to 75 years old
• Less than 10 years since quitting smoking

The screening cost of $200 is not covered by insurance or Medicare. It includes a CT scan and a same-day consultation with a cardiovascular specialist.

“This screening is particularly needed in our region because of the high rate of lung cancer,” said Bob Seely, director of radiology. “Baptist Health Paducah treated 203 lung cases last year, more than any other type of cancer. It also provides a great opportunity for smokers because, while the screening isn’t covered by insurance, we’re able to offer it at an affordable cost.”

If you are interested in being screened, see if you meet the criteria by completing an online form at www.BaptistHealthPaducah.com/lung or phoning Baptist Health Line at 270.575.2918. You will be asked to provide your name, age, tobacco smoking history and contact information.

The screening comes from the Baptist Health Paducah Center for Cancer Care, which is dedicated to the early detection, treatment and follow-up of patients with lung disease.
