branch outreach 300CROFTON, Ky. (3/27/13) – Located in the heart of Crofton, this non-profit Christian based, interdenominational outreach for north Christian County and Crofton area has been making changes within their community.

Co-founded by Kim Edwards, Kim Houchins, Amy Jo Cansler and Bobbie Jo Nowak, formed this incorporation to meet the needs of those individuals who need extra assistance. Once a month they have food banks and take food boxes to the elderly and handicapped residents of the Crofton Manor.

They work with Hopkinsville Community College with helping those to get their GEDs. Volunteers from the community teach classes in programs such as; tutoring, literacy needs, family budgeting, parenting and job skills. Other services like support groups, Christian counseling, post-abortion counseling and crisis pregnancy counseling are also offered. Volunteers are trained to instill concepts of self-esteem, empowerment to rise above current circumstances and work-over-welfare.

The Outreach also sponsors a quarterly Community Breakfast that is held at the Crofton City Hall. Their next Community Breakfast will be Saturday April 20, 2013 from 7:00am-11:00am. “These are great, people can come out and have a hot meal with their whole family, free of charge,” stated Kim Edwards. Usually the local churches take turns and volunteer to work and help serve food. Kim also states, “The breakfast is for anyone, not just clients of the food bank.”

The Outreach is also hosting the 2nd Annual Faith and Family 5k Fun run/walk which will be held on Saturday May 11, 2013 at 8:30am at the Crofton Gordon Park located on 13731 Old Madisonville Road. Registration will start at 6:30am. Pre-registration starts from now until April 20, 2013 which will guarantee you a t-shirt. Those who are 14 and under, $10 and those 15 and over, $20. All proceeds will be used to purchase food and supplies for community needs.
