Sunspring Announces Expansion, Possible Job Growth

sunspring 300HENDERSON, Ky. (4/4/13) – Sunspring America Inc. in Henderson is announcing today the details of an expansion project totaling $1.2 million that could see the manufacturing facility add up to 15 new jobs over the next three years, according to a news release from Northwest Kentucky Forward.

Sunspring qualified for $375,000 in state tax credits as part of the Kentucky Business Incentive program, and also received $100,000 in local incentives from Henderson County in the form of a forgivable loan as well as 1% local occupational tax support for ten years from the City of Henderson.

The investment includes the purchase of three new pieces of equipment that will help in the zinc die-casting of large kitchen spouts. The equipment includes a computer numerical control (CNC) machine and two dedicated machining centers as well as additional tooling, fixtures, racks and robot components. The spouts are being produced for three of the largest kitchen and bath hardware makers in the U.S.

Sunspring officials believe the new business and enhanced capacity will allow the Henderson plant to add up to 15 new jobs.

We have a long term partnership with the City and County of Henderson, and we are excited about the opportunity to grow back some of the business and jobs that were affected by the economic conditions over the past few years. The news of Sunspring’s expansion and the potential for new jobs were welcomed by local officials.

“Henderson County was happy to be involved in the process of helping Sunspring America expand its local facility which will have significant economic impact on the entire region.,” Henderson County Judge-Executive Hugh McCormick said.

The plant on Fifth Street has been in operation for more than 50 years, most recently as the North American flagship plant for Sunspring Metal Corp., an international firm that manufactures world-class kitchen and bath plumbing products.
