Three-Year-Old Returned Home Following Morning Search for Parents

snot 300HENDERSON, Ky. (7/18/13) – A three year old child reportedly found wandering in the 1400 block of Young St. in Henderson was returned to his parents following a police-initiated search this morning.

Henderson Police spokesperson Jennifer Richmond issued a statement on the incident this afternoon. According to Richmond, “a concerned neighbor” who didn’t recognize the child contacted 911. Officers weren’t able to locate the child’s family and ended up transporting him to the Department of Community Based Services while they alerted local media to seek the public’s help in identifying the family.

A family member recognized the child and called 911. Officers then went to a residence in the 1400 block where the child lives. Authorities said the boy’s father was apparently sleeping after working a late shift and that the boy’s mother was at work. An adult sibling who wasn’t identified was supposed to be watching the child, but the child apparently “left the home without being detected,” Richmond said in the statement.

Charges won’t be filed against any of the family members, however DCBS will remain in contact with the family, Richmond added.
