Henderson County Police Department Reports Scooter Thefts

Theft red 300HENDERSON, Ky. (8/6/13) – The Henderson County Police Department today issued the following statement regarding a rash of alleged thefts of motor scooters in the Henderson area:

“With rising fuel prices, many people have turned to scooters as an alternative form of transportation. They are relatively inexpensive and use minimal amounts of fuel. During the past few months, there has been a rise in the number of scooter thefts within the City of Henderson and we are asking for help from scooter owners. Please write down the make, model and serial number of your scooter and take a photograph of it. This will help police out tremendously if they are stolen.

Scooters are not being secured, with a chain, when not in use. We are also finding that they are being hot-wired and/or the keys are being left in the ignition. We have recovered several scooters recently, but have only been able to identify the owner of one in recent weeks. If you have had a scooter stolen and not reported it to police, please call the Henderson Police Department. We may have recovered your scooter and may release if you can identify the scooter (make, model, identifying characteristics) and provide proof of ownership.”
