Mayors Bet a Day at the Tracks Over the UK and UofL Rivalry Game

uk vs ul 01 300LEXINGTON, Ky. (12/27/13) — Not only will the fans be placing bets on who will win the rivalry UK game against UofL, but the city mayors are, too. A friendly wager has been made between Mayor Jim Gray and Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer on the game that will take place at Rupp Arena tomorrow night. The winning mayor gets the opportunity to show off his hometown racetrack.

“Mayor Fischer, it will be a pleasure to welcome you to Rupp Arena, the Cathedral of College Basketball. I’m hoping you won’t take the loss too hard…after all, Kentucky has won twice as many of these match-ups as Louisville,” said Gray, who predicted he will enjoy hosting Fischer at Keeneland next spring.

“When the Cards win with their superior quickness and experience, I will be honored to host Mayor Gray for a day at the races during the spring meet at Churchill Downs,” Fischer said.

The two mayors will be sitting together for the game and will be cheering on their hometown teams tomorrow at 4 p.m. at Rupp Arena.
