Legislators Gather in Henderson to Discuss General Assembly

Henderson Chamber LegislatiHENDERSON, Ky. (1/28/14) - Legislators, business people, and citizens alike gathered Monday morning to discuss the future of Kentucky’s employment rates and future opportunity, marking the first Legislative Breakfast hosted by Kyndle.

Kyndle, a recent merger between Henderson Chamber of Commerce and North West Kentucky Forward, previewed the agenda of the 2014 Kentucky General Assembly session with special guests including: Rep. Dr. David Watkins, state Sen. Dorsey Ridley, State Rep. Suzanne Miles and Rep. Jim Gooch.

The major topic in the morning’s speeches was the coal industry.

“We need to use the most efficient, reliable forms of electricity, which happens to be coal,” said Gooch. “I want to stress how important energy is; it affects costs of other things.”

Miles, who is completing her first month on the job, agreed saying coal “is absolutely crucial” to Kentuckians.

Watkins is hopeful this General Assembly session will be effective, saying 251 House Bills were introduced, including one of the more controversial--House Bill 235 regarding the state budget.

The public is invited to attend the Western Kentucky Welcome Reception, to meet and greet with legislators, Feb. 11 at the Frankfort Convention Center.
