Watson Family, Church Overwhelmed by Support After Tragic Fire

Depoy fire Watson familyThe Watson Family Fundraiser Facebook Page is sharing this photo of the Watson children. All but 11-year-old Kylie perished in the early Thursday morning fire. The father, Chad Watson, 36, also survived. Both Kylie and Chad were life-flighted to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville.MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (2/3/14) – Pastor Tim Burton of Calvary Baptist Church in Central City said he, his church and the Watson family are truly overwhelmed by the response of The Band Perry, Jagoe Homes and others in covering some of the costs resulting from the Thursday fire that took the lives of nine members of the Watson family.

The Watsons were very active members of the church, where a candlelight vigil was held Friday night.

"The Band Perry heard about the tragedy and contacted Adam Brown, Chad Watson's cousin," Burton told SurfKY News. "They have committed to pay for all expenses of the funeral, along with the cost of three weeks of motel rooms for relatives so they can be near the Nashville hospitals where Chad and Kylie Watson are being treated."

Burton noted that his father had worked for Jagoe Homes, so he knew about their integrity.

"I called them, and Scott Jagoe said they were very touched by the story,” said Burton. “He said they would build Chad and Kylie a new home. But they want to wait until the family is in a condition to decide on where they want the home, and other factors."

Burton emphasized that local sub-contractors will be considered for various part of the home construction.

"Jagoe plans to work with and cooperate with people involved in home building here in the county," Burton said. "They are wanting licensed and qualified builders who will guarantee their work for at least 10 years.”

Another person touched by the heartbreaking event was multi-award winning contemporary Christian singer Jason Crabb.

Carmel Sheppard Rich, director of the Central City Tourism Commission, told SurfKY News that as soon as she reached out to Crabb, as well as The Bowlings gospel group, they all agreed to be a part of a benefit for the surviving members of the Watson family.

"As soon as I asked them, they all said, 'Yes, we want to help,'" Rich said.

Although no exact date has been set yet, Rich verified the concert would go on.

"I can assure you that there will be a lot more names added to the list of performers, and this will happen soon," she said.

Jason Crabb is a former member of the highly popular gospel group The Crabb Family, who originally lived and performed in and around their hometown of Beaver Dam.

"Jason will bring so much comfort to people in this time of such great sadness,” said Rich. "People here just love him so much."

Both Jason Crabb and the Bowlings appeared at the 2013 Gospelfest in downtown Central City, which drew more than a thousand fans.
