(Photo provided by Lora Wimsatt)OWENSBORO, Ky. (2/13/14) – Fifth-grade students at Meadow Lands Elementary School will host a “Blast From the Past Museum Showcase” with performances for students next week.

The “Blast From the Past” museum is a culminating activity resulting from 10 weeks of work with social studies and writing content.

Fifth-grade students have researched famous historical figures.

“Every student created a stamp, timeline, fact card and published an article,” according to MLES fifth-grade teacher Laura Watson. “Then they could choose one project to display their new knowledge. Students could make a tri-fold board (learning board), coke bottle representation, dress as their person and perform a monologue; or choose from three technology projects: PowerPoint, short video, or blabberize, which is to create a talking picture of their person that delivers a monologue about their life.”

The students will bring this learning together by showcasing a variety of projects, such as dressing as their figure, displaying learning boards, technology projects, and coke bottle representations that guests can learn from as they visit each exhibit.

“Students have been extremely excited about this project and have been able to make great connections between the past and the present,” said Watson. “It truly has been a BLAST learning about the past!”

The event is scheduled from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at the school located at 3500 Hayden Road.
