OHS, OMS to Perform ‘Cobweb Dreams’

owensboro public schoolsOWENSBORO, Ky. (2/13/14) – The playwright, Lindsay Price, will travel to Owensboro from her home in Crystal Beach, Ontario, Canada, to work with students and their teachers Carolyn Greer and Jessica Stafford on the staging of her play that is based on William Shakespeare’s "A Midsummer Night’s Dream".

"Cobweb Dreams" follows the humorous predicaments of Cobweb (one of Queen Titania’s fairies) as she is tempted to join King Oberon’s boisterous band of fairies.

“The Rose Curtain Players have produced quite a few shows written by Lindsay Price in the past few years and I had the opportunity to meet her at the International Thespian Festival in the past. Last year, the OMS drama program produced Lindsay's play, The Snow Show, and took it to the National Junior Thespian Festival in Augusta, GA, and received great response. A few weeks later, the Rose Curtain Players performed Lindsay's play Among Friends and Clutter at the Southeastern Theatre Conference, where we won ‘best play’,” explained OHS drama teacher Carolyn Greer.

After the success of both programs, the playwright contacted both teachers with the plan to provide them with a new production.

“Both Carolyn Greer and Jessica Stafford have used my plays to great success. Jessica took my play The Snow Show to the National Junior Thespian Festival and Carolyn won the SETC one-act play festival with Among Friends and Clutter. When we originally talked about premiering one of my plays, the idea was to do a combined high school/middle school production. But, when they had over 100 students audition, they knew one production just wasn't enough,” Price explained.

During her week in Owensboro, Price expects to be busy. “It's so exciting to be able to see two versions of the same script. But I'll also be seeing other works of mine in progress. Carolyn is using a number of my plays in her classes and they're in the middle of rehearsals,” she said.

The playwright plans to attend performances on Thursday and Saturday where she will be available to meet audience members.
