ky state park flagHENDERSON, Ky. (3/14/14) — John James Audubon State Park will hold its “Spring Clean” Saturday, April 5.

With the start of spring just a few days away, the park is looking for volunteers to come out and tackle some “Spring Clean” projects starting at 8 a.m. at the Sycamore Shelter.

The cleanup will last until 3 p.m. Lunch will be provided for volunteers.

This event is co-sponsored by the Audubon Outdoor Club.

This is a great opportunity for church groups, scouts and others to help beautify the park in time for the spring season. Volunteers should wear appropriate clothing for the weather. Volunteer projects will include painting, planting trees, placing fire rings, and other sprucing-up tasks.

Groups and individuals interested in volunteering should contact Mark Kellen at (270) 826-2247, or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

John James Audubon State Park is the site where Audubon studied and painted birds from 1810-1819. The park is equipped with cottages and a campground, and offers many recreational opportunities, including a nine-hole golf course, 6 miles of hiking trails, fishing and more. It also has a museum and nature center that interprets Audubon’s life through a collection of his paintings and memorabilia. For more information, visit www.parks.ky.gov or call (270) 826-2247.

The park is located on U.S. 41 in the northern outskirts of Henderson, a half-mile south of the U.S. 41 bridge over the Ohio River.
