HCHS Bands Receive Distinguished Ratings

HEND CO BANDHENDERSON, Ky. (3/20/14) — March 19, the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble from Henderson County High School traveled to Madisonville’s Glema Mahr Center for the Arts to perform concert programs for three adjudicators and to sight-read or perform a piece they had never seen before for a fourth judge.

The Symphonic Band performed a program which included Clare Grundman’s “Kentucky 1800,” David Holsinger’s “A Childhood Hymn,” and Harold Bennett’s “Military Escort,” earning a distinguished rating.

The Wind Ensemble’s program included “A Festival Prelude” by Alfred Reed, “Loch Lomond” by Frank Ticheli, and the famous John Philip Sousa march, “The Liberty Bell,” also receiving a distinguished rating.

The public has a few more opportunities to hear these distinguished ensembles during the 2013 - 2014 school year.

They will present a Spring Concert, 7:00 p.m Monday, April 28, 2014 at the Henderson Fine Arts Center.

The Wind Ensemble will perform on the morning of Monday, May 26, 2014 at Henderson’s annual Memorial Day service in Central Park.

Finally, both bands will perform as one at the HCHS commencement ceremony 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 30, 2014 at the Ford Center.

Both bands are under the direction of Adam Thomas and Brandon Etienne.
