(4/4/14) — Shelly Bozarth and Carolyn Ferber from the Wendell Foster Campus for Developmental Disabilities in Owensboro visited Niagara Elementary on Monday, March 31 to discuss and teach students about the “R” word (retard/retarded).

Bozarth who was born with Cerebral Palsy, read a story to the children and then fielded questions about how she is both the same and different from them.

She went on to explain that being called the “R” word is very hurtful and educated them not call others by that name.

Niagara students also participated in a poster contest entitled, “Spread the Word to End the Word….No “R” Word.”
