HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (4/10/14) — Sixteen people are running for the office of Hopkins County Magistrate.

Because all but two are Democrats, the Primary Election May 20 will pare down the pool to only two races that will be decided in the General Election Nov. 4. That means the winners of the other 14 races will be decided in the Primary Election.

In Magisterial District 4, Republican candidate Jack Whitfield, Jr., will take on the winner of the Democratic Party between candidates Jimmie Ray and incumbent Magistrate Larry Wilson.

In Magisterial District 3, Democrat Vicki Dickerson Thomison and Republican Dianne Coleman will face off in the fall. They are the only candidates for their respective parties in that district on the Primary Election ballot.

Democrats Linda P. Todd, Pryce Littlepage, David J. Offutt and Mike Bryant are seeking the position of District 2 Magistrate.

In Magisterial District 1, David K. Crick, is challenging incumbent Karol Welch. Both are Democrats.

Democrat James D. Harris is unchallenged for Magisterial District 5.

Incumbent Democrat Charlie Beshears is unchallenged for his position as Magistrate in District 6.

Three Democrats are vying for Magistrate in District 7 — they are Hannah Miner Myers, a Madisonville City Councilwoman; former Magistrate and former Hopkins County Judge-Executive Patricia “Patti” Hawkins and Thomas Crockett.

10 candidates responded to SurfKY News' recent interview questions that should provide insights into their philosophies about public office. Click on the individual candidate's photo to read their Q&A interview.
