UPDATE: HANSON, Ky. (4/15/14) — The Hopkins County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that $10,000 was taken from U.S. Bank in Hanson during a robbery Monday, April 14.

According to Deputy Otis Chamberlain, at 9:32 a.m. Monday, the suspect called in a bomb threat. At 9:34 a.m., the bank manager placed $10,000 inside a white Nissan Murano parked outside.

By 9:36 a.m., the suspect took the money from the SUV and walked away. Officials believe the suspect got into a dark-colored SUV and headed toward the Pennyrile Parkway.

The Murano was dusted for prints and the investigation is continuing.

The three devices were fake bombs that looked like cell phones with wires coming out of them.

Bank Bomb Threat UPDATE 3 p.m.

HANSON, Ky. (4/14/14) — Hopkins County Sheriff Frank Latham said bank photographs show a masked, white male wearing grayish-colored camouflage clothing at Hanson's U.S. Bank after bank staff received bomb threats at 9:30 a.m. Monday, April 14.

The caller indicated three devices had been placed at the bank, and that proved to be true.

Latham said all three devices were described by the caller, who demanded money. Latham would not divulge whether money was taken nor the amount.

"There is more story to this," said Latham. "But I want to wait for bank officials. The bank officials have not been in the bank since the incident happened."

An active search for the suspect has been in effect since the incident began, said Latham. The FBI, Kentucky State Police and the Owensboro Bomb Squad have been on the scene assisting the Sheriff's Office.

"It is a bit unusual," said Latham. "One bomb is enough but if you have a subject with more than two - that's highly unusual."

The three packages described by the caller were located in the areas the caller indicated. A bomb squad robot was used to deactivate the devices.

Hanson Elementary School has been on lockdown and students will be leaving the school around 3:30 p.m., said Latham. The buses will not turn downtown but take the Pennyrile Parkway and then head to usual routes.
