preschoolgirl teacher readiHENDERSON, Ky. (5/2/14) — The Gamma Tau Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha is a service organization that has adopted a literacy project called "Read with Me" to benefit preschool children.

The group’s goal is to collect 450 “gently used” picture books to be able to send one home with every child attending the Thelma B. Johnson Early Learning Center. The intent is to start or add to the child’s home library and to encourage parents to read with their children. Research has proven that the more a child is read to, the more he/she learns words that better prepare that child for kindergarten success.

When Cairo Elementary’s third grade class heard about the book donation project, they decided to take this on as a service learning project. They collected books and donated them to the "Read With Me" program. All donated books will be displayed for the Thelma B. Johnson Early Learning Center’s students. They will choose one to take home on May 13.
