fatal patterson

UPDATE: HENDERSON, Ky. (7/31/14) — William Patterson, 42, has been charged with murder in connection with a two-vehicle, fatal collision June 7 in Henderson.

According to a Kentucky State Police report, KSP Det. Chris Baker charged Patterson with murder July 30.

Baker, who is a collision reconstructionist, presented his findings to the Henderson County Attorney's Office. Due to Patterson's impairment, the charge was granted, according to the report.

Patterson was served with the warrant for his arrest and is being lodged in the Henderson County Detention Center on a $100,000 cash bond.

See original story below:

HENDERSON, Ky. (6/9/14) — Sharon Gaines was traveling eastbound on US 60, in the limits of Henderson.

Gaines was in the process of making a right turn into the Wal-Mart entrance next to Sonic Drive-In. William Patterson was also on US 60 traveling westbound. For an unknown reason, Patterson’s 2000 Toyota passenger car crossed multiple lanes of US 60 and struck Gaines’s 2004 Chevrolet Cobalt on the driver’s door. At impact, both vehicles were redirected and traveled approximately 30 feet where they both struck a lamp pole before making final rest.

Henderson County Ambulance transported passenger Josh Gaines to Methodist Hospital in Henderson for minor injuries. He has since been treated and released. Sharon Gaines was extricated by mechanical means from the wreckage but was pronounced dead on-scene by the Henderson County Coroner’s Office.

Patterson also transported to Methodist Hospital for possible injury. He was charged by Detective Chris Baker with Driving Under the Influence first degree, Aggravated Offense and Driving on a Suspended Driver’s License.

Parts of US 60 were interrupted for over two hours as KSP collision reconstructionists investigated the collision.

The investigation is on-going.
