oboro health 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (6/12/14) — Owensboro Health Regional Hospital was recognized among the '100 Great Community Hospitals' for 2014 by Becker's Hospital Review.

Becker's Hospital Review has published the 2014 edition of "100 Great Community Hospitals," a list based on hospitals' accolades, quality of care and services provided to their patient populations.

The hospitals featured on the list have fewer than 550 beds and minimal teaching programs. Some are suburban hospitals, but many are located in rural areas and are their communities' sole hospital. All have worked to provide the experience and quality of care their patients expect and deserve.

"We are honored to be listed among so many other great community-focused hospitals," said Philip Paterson, president and CEO of Owensboro Health. "Our mission drives everything we do, helping us focus on not only healing the sick, but having a genuine impact on improving the health of the communities we serve."

The Becker's Hospital Review editorial team selected hospitals for inclusion based on rankings and awards from iVantage Health Analytics, Truven Health Analytics, CareChex and American Hospital Association. iVantage recognitions considered include Healthstrong Hospitals, which are organizations in the top tier of iVantage's Hospital Strength Index rankings, and the Top 100 Critical Access Hospital list, which indicates the critical access hospital performs as well or better at the median overall than all U.S. general acute-care hospitals in clinical and operational performance and financial outcomes. Inclusion on Truven Health Analytics' 100 Top Hospitals list was also factored in.

Owensboro Health is a non-profit health care system with a mission to heal the sick and to improve the health of the communities it serves. Owensboro Health has been recognized by Healthgrades as a Distinguished Hospital for Clinical ExcellenceTM (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014) and America's 100 Best HospitalsTM (2013, 2014). The system includes an acute care hospital; a Medical Group; numerous clinics and diagnostic centers; wound healing centers; a cancer center; home care services; and the Healthpark, a medical-based fitness center. Owensboro Health Regional Hospital is licensed to operate 477 beds, with an average of 1,800 births, 64,000 emergency room visits, 18,000 admissions and 500,000 outpatient visits each year. System-wide, the organization has nearly 3,400 employees, 250 volunteers and 219 medical staff.
