2014-narc-awardOWENSBORO, Ky. (6/16/14) — Tri-County Recycling Alliance received recognition from the National Association of Regional Councils at the 48th Annual NARC Conference and Exhibition in Louisville this week.

Officials from Green River Area Development District, which assisted TCRA in their recent major expansion project, accepted the 2014 Rural Achievement Award on June 11, on behalf of the alliance.

TCRA , established in 1994 as a regional partnership between Henderson, Union and Webster counties, as well as the City of Henderson, utilized $1.4 million in federal and state grants plus local funds to construct a state of the art processing center.

Completed in June 2013, the new 18,000-square-foot facility (adjacent to the Henderson County Road Department) can sort and package over one million tons of recycled material per year.

“We are very proud to be associated with Tri-County Recycling Alliance,” said Jiten Shah, GRADD executive director. “They are a shining example of regional collaboration and should serve as a model for communities throughout the Commonwealth and the nation.” NARC represents more than 250 regional councils and metropolitan planning organizations across the U.S., promoting regional cooperation as the most effective way to address a variety of community planning and development issues.

The organization’s Rural Achievement Award is given to an agency serving a region with a population under 250,000, for a program making significant impact upon the region while promoting and exemplifying regional cooperation, coordination and excellence.
