muhl co school 300GREENVILLE, Ky. (6/17/14) ― Muhlenberg County School System has selected Rick Carver as assistant superintendent of College and Career Readiness.

In a statement released by Muhlenberg County Superintendent Randy McCarty, he stated that Carver’s background makes him the ideal person for the job.

"Mr. Carver has 25 years of experience in the Muhlenberg County School District, which includes serving as a high school mathematics teacher, high school assistant principal, elementary principal, and director of facilities," McCarty stated.

Carver said he welcomes the new responsibilities.

"My main task as assistant superintendent will be to work with all of our school and district staff, parents, students, businesses, and the community to help our students be more successful as they graduate and make the transition to life after high school,” Carver told SurfKY in a phone interview. “ I strongly feel that we need to work together to help our students select their college/career path and identify the steps necessary to achieve their goals.”

Carver said the time to help students plan for life after high school is crucial to success.

“I plan to work closely with the district and school staff to identify programs and procedures to do just that,” he said. “With the help of the two new career counselors and existing school/district staff I will work to help our students explore career fields, identify their strengths and interests, and map out the steps they need to take while in school to give them the best chance to reach whatever goals they set for themselves."

Carver is a long term member of the community as he graduated from Drakesboro Consolidated School in 1978.  He married his wife, Beverly Rolley Carver, 34 years ago and has lived in Greenville for 29 years.  Carver and his wife are members of the Lone Star General Baptist Church in Weir.  Carver will begin his position as assistant superintendent on July 1.
