UPDATE - Lane Restrictions on US 41 Twin Bridges Starting Aug.4

lane restriction 300HENDERSON, Ky. (8/7/14) — Starting Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, northbound traffic will be shifted in the US 41 Twin Bridges work zone.

All northbound traffic will move to the right-hand or driving lane on the bridge approach.

This lane arrangement is expected to remain in place on Thursday and Friday.

Inspectors hope to complete their work on the northbound bridge this week. However, there is a chance of rain Thursday and Friday that could cause delays in the inspection process.

The inspection team plans to give commuters a break from the work zone over the weekend and come back on Monday.

The inspection team hopes to complete their detailed examination of both bridges by the end of next week.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will attempt to provide timely updates as the inspection work progresses.

HENDERSON, Ky. (7/31/14) — A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet tentatively plans lane restrictions on the US 41 Twin Bridges between Henderson, Ky., and Evansville, Ind., starting Monday, August 4, 2014.

The lane restrictions are to facilitate a detailed inspection of the bridges.

Motorists should be prepared to encounter one lane traffic from approximately 9 a.m. to approximately 3:30 p.m., CDT, on weekdays. Lane restrictions may be up for additional hours on weekends.

Inspectors will be climbing the bridge structure and using a snooper truck as they go about their work.

Motorists should be prepared to encounter slowing and merging traffic on the bridge approaches. Appropriate caution is required where equipment, flaggers, and inspection personnel are on the bridge deck in close proximity to traffic flow.

The detailed inspection is expected to take about 10 days to 2 weeks to complete, weather permitting.

The US 41 Twin Bridges, also known as the Bi-State Viet Nam Gold Star Memorial Bridges, are located at US 41 mile point 19.649 about a mile south of the Kentucky-Indiana State Line. They carry approximately 37,000 vehicles per day across the Ohio River between Henderson, Ky., and Evansville, Ind.

The bridges are located about a mile downstream from the confluence of the Green River and the Ohio River at Ohio River navigation mile point 786.8.

The northbound bridge was opened to traffic on July 4, 1932. The southbound bridge was opened to traffic on December 16,1965.
