picnicOWENSBORO, Ky. (8/25/14) — The 44th annual Mount Saint Joseph barbecue picnic takes place Sunday, Sept. 14 at the Motherhouse of the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph, Maple Mount (located 12 miles west of Owensboro on Hwy. 56).

Booths open at 10:30 a.m. Award-winning barbecue chicken, mutton and pork is served from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The barbecue is served with side items. Barbecue sandwiches, burgoo and other foods such as nachos and funnel cakes are also available.

For the first time ever, a radio station will be doing a live remote from the picnic. WBIO (94.7 FM) will set up a two-hour remote with disc jockey Steve Horn.

Grand raffle tickets will be sold in packets of 4 for $20, or $5 each. Grand raffle prizes are $10,000, a two-year lease on a Toyota Corolla from Don Moore Toyota, $1,000, a handmade quilt, $500, $250 and $100. Raffle drawings take place at 3 p.m.

The silent auction will offer a wide variety of nice items. The popular yard sale and holiday decor booths will be back. Other booths will feature one-of-a-kind handmade crafts made by the Ursuline Sisters and friends, a cake wheel, ice cream, bingo, pull tabs, fruit, plants and more. Children can enjoy an inflatable obstacle course, face painting, adopting a (stuffed) pet and games such as Froggie.

All picnic proceeds benefit the retired Ursuline Sisters.
