Local Man Arrested on Charges of Attempted Murder

THURMAN POWELLHOPKINS COUNTY, KY (2/23/12) – On Wednesday, Feb. 22, at approximately 6:29, officers from the Madisonville Police Dept. responded to a report of shots fired at 200 Whittington Drive, Lot 168.
 
Once on the scene, officers were told by witnesses that they heard shots fired in the neighborhood. After a thorough investigation, it was determined that during a verbal altercation, Thurman Powell of Madisonville had produced a handgun and attempted to shoot Bret Southerland, also of Madisonville.
 
No injuries were reported in the altercation. At this time, specific details of the incident are being investigated by the Madisonville Police Department. Powell is currently being held on charges of attempted murder.
