Sheriff’s Dept. Informant Interview Posted on YouTube

southerland arrestHOPKINS COUNTY, KY (2/24/12) – In December of 2011, a video of an interview with a confidential informant and members of the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department was posted to YouTube without knowledge of the Sheriff’s Department.

The Sheriff’s Department began an in-depth investigation leading to information that family members of a local criminal suspect had obtained the video through their attorney and then posted the video to YouTube.

Randall Boyd Southerland turned himself in to the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department on Friday, Feb. 24, 2012.

In a statement released by Sheriff’s Department officials, it was stated that, “The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department wants to ensure the safety of those who work with us to help deter criminal activity in our county. The Sheriff’s Department will continue to monitor online activity and track down those who use social media sites to intimidate or harass the citizens of Hopkins County.”
