Madisonville Hit by Harsh Storms

0229 stormdamage01

MADISONVILLE, KY (2/29/12) – Citizens of Madisonville, KY had a rough awakening this morning, Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, with a major storm front moving throughout the region.

At this time, no injuries have been reported from the storm front; however, there were several locations that received damage.

Police and city officials were on the scene in front of Rural King at around 7:30, directing traffic due to various items blown out of the Rural King parking lot.  One of the items was a rent-to-own storage building that was blown out of the lot and into the roadway next to Rural King.

On the North end of town, reports were issued early in the morning that a tornado may have touched down near exit 44 just down from Lowes. SurfKY Reporters scanned the immediate area and only found one point of damage, being the Kroger sign.

Officials stated that pea-sized hail hit the area in the early morning hours as well as some minor flooding in low-lying areas.

Around 7:45 power outages were being experienced in various areas, including South Main Street from Hucks to an undetermined distance south.
