Double Arrow Explosive Services Working to Move Blasting Operations Indoors Soon

double arrow 300NORTONVILLE, Ky. (1/28/13) – Double Arrow Explosive Services President Matt Donovan has announced that his company is working hard to wrap up its outdoor blasting which can be heard by some residents who live near the facility in Nortonville. Work on an indoor blasting chamber is underway and the company hopes to move the blasting into the indoor—and quieter—facility by early March. Once the blasting project moves inside the noise should cease to be an issue.

“We apologize for any inconvenience the noise from our blasting project may have caused,” Donovan said. “While Double Arrow is in full compliance with all laws and regulations, I recognize that some people have heard the blasting. We are as anxious to get it moved inside as anyone and we are working hard to get that done. Provided the weather cooperates we hope to have the indoor chamber finished by early March.”

Donovan said the blasting was related to a process called “explosive depth hardening,” in which plastic bonded explosives is detonated onto steel. This process changes the molecular structure of the steel and hardens it, resulting in a more durable product that extends the life of the material. It’s also a clean process – no waste is created by the blasting. Double Arrow recently started offering this service and has tripled the number of workers on site because of it. The project is related to the completion of railroad switches.

“We provide a great service to our customers and our process is very effective, if a little loud,” Donovan said. “We’ve created four good jobs related to the project and the indoor blasting chamber is being built by local contractors,” Donovan added, noting that Double Arrow is proud to be part of the local economy.

“We are interested in being fully transparent and open with the public about what we’re doing here,” Donovan said. “It’s a pretty exciting project and we are proud to giving local workers and contractors a chance to be part of our team.”

Donovan pledged to keep community leaders updated on the project and said that if any future projects could cause a similar noise issue that he would notify the media and local officials on the front end.

“We have long valued our relationship with the people in this area and want them to know how grateful we are to operate in such a wonderful community,” Donovan said. “We appreciate folks bearing with us for a few more weeks while we get this noise problem taken care of.”
