muffler2

MADISONVILLE, KY. (3/21/13) – This week’s Business Spotlight features to Automotive Express located on 873 South Main Street. Business hours are Monday – Friday 7:30am -5:00pm.

Automotive Express first opened September 15, 1981 by Curtis McCoy. Mr. McCoy hired Dan McGary to manage the first shop. At the time Curtis owned five other shops and with unfortunate blenders that happened he had to sell. He offered all his shops to his managers and Dan thought it would be a good idea to buy it from him. “I bought this shop July of 1982 and when I bought it, I’ve been at it ever since. We started out as an under car specialty shop. We did exhausts, brakes, shocks and struts. It wasn’t until 1986 when we started doing oil changes.”

In 1986, the business started operating as two separate businesses under the same roof called “Oil Change Express” and “Muffler Express.” The business was doing really well; it was then decided to merge the two. In 2005, the location the business is currently at became available and opted to change the name to Automotive Express but still operating as Muffler Express to help with describing what they did there. Dan expresses, “We do full automotive except for auto glass and body repairs.”
