Three Vehicle Triple Fatality Collision on KY/TENN Border

fatal accidentOAK GROVE, Ky. (3/29/13) – The Kentucky State Police is investigating a three-vehicle, triple fatality collision that occurred on Interstate 24, at the 93 mile-marker (Kentucky-Tennessee state line), on Friday, March 29, 2013, at approximately 11:21 a.m.
 
The preliminary investigation revealed that Michael Mahan, 38 of Trenton, GA, was operating a 1996 Toyota Camry westbound on I-24.  His two daughters, Meagan Mahan, 11, and Savanah Mahan, 16, were passengers in the vehicle.  Richard Dooley, age unknown of Arlington, VA, was operating a Uhaul truck eastbound on I-24.  His wife, Lisa Larimer, 43, and their two daughters, Ariel Dooley, 7, and Sierra Dooley, 6, were traveling behind him in a 2003 Toyota Rav 4.
 
For an undetermined reason, Mr. Mahan's vehicle crossed the median and entered the eastbound lanes of travel where it struck the Uhaul.  Mr. Mahan's vehicle then struck the Rav 4.  Meagan Mahan was pronounced dead at the scene by Christian County Deputy Coroner Mike Stokes.  Mr. Mahan and Savanah Mahan were transported via ambulance to Gateway Medical Center where Mr. Mahan succumbed to his injuries.  Savanah Mahan was transferred to Vanderbilt where she succumbed to her injuries.  Lisa Larimer, Ariel Dooley, and Sierra Dooley were transported via ambulance to the Gateway Medical Center for treatment.  At the present time, Ms. Larimer is listed in stable condition.  Ariel and Sierra Dooley are both listed in stable, but critical condition.  Richard Dooley was not injured.
 
Lisa Larimer was wearing a seatbelt.  Ariel and Sierra Dooley were restrained in child safety seats.  It is unknown at the present time if the other four subjects involved were using restraints.
 
The investigation is continuing by Tpr. Michael Dennis and collision reconstructionists Tpr. Nick Rice and Tpr. Luis Palmer.  The Christian County Sheriff's Department, Oak Grove EMS, Clarksville Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff's Department, Tennessee Highway Patrol, and the Christian County Coroner's Office assisted at the scene.
