Working Against the Cycle of Child Abuse

adv kim 300MADISONVILLE, Ky. (4/23/13) – On Tuesday afternoon, April 23, 2013, the Hopkins County Family Advocacy Center stood out in front of the old courthouse to take a stand against child abuse and neglect.

Family Advocacy staff passed out pinwheels to those who stopped and distributed to all the local businesses around the courthouse to help with promoting and spreading the word about child abuse and neglect.

This month celebrates the National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Child abuse and neglect is a very sensitive subject that many people do not want to talk about. With the growing and alarming statistics that are reported every year, it’s time to take a stand and speak out for those children who can’t defend themselves. It is estimated that the actual number of incidents of abuse and neglect could possibly be three times more than what is actually being reported by professionals and nonprofessionals.

For over 30 years, April has been recognized as the National Child Abuse Prevention Month, this month also dedicates time to encouraging those within their communities to help support both children and their families while preventing the abuse and neglect from happening.

For more information about child abuse and neglect you can call the Hopkins County Family Advocacy Center at (270)825-1582 or you can visit their office at 228 South Main Street, Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm.
