OWENSBORO, Ky. (4/25/13) – Daviess County tied Franklin and Madison counties for one of the lowest unemployment rates between March 2012 and March of this year, according to a news release from the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet issued today.
Woodford County recorded the lowest jobless rate in the Commonwealth at 6.1 percent, while Daviess County reported a 6.9 percent unemployment rate. The news release also stated unemployment rates went up in 60 Kentucky counties while it held the same level in six others and went down in 54 more. However, the report doesn’t indicate whether the percentage of unemployment in the counties listed as highest and lowest are increases or decreases over the previous year.
Unemployment statistics are based on estimates and are compiled to measure trends rather than actually to count people working. Civilian labor force statistics include non-military workers and unemployed Kentuckians who are actively seeking work. They do not include unemployed Kentuckians who have not looked for employment within the past four weeks. The statistics in this news release are not seasonally adjusted because of the small sample size for each county. The data should only be compared to the same month in previous years.
