Former Detective Resigns, Announces Run for Sheriff Position

MattSandersonMADISONVILLE, Ky. (6/5/13) – Recently, Matt Sanderson resigned as a Detective at the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office. Sanderson has also decided to run for the upcoming Sheriff’s election.

“It’s time to run for Sheriff. It’s time that the Sheriff’s office takes a new direction and gets back to what’s important, and that’s the safety and protection of all the people of Hopkins County. And we do this by working with, and alongside, the people of Hopkins County,” Sanderson stated. “It’s time to start thinking outside the box to solve problems. The ‘old school’ way of conducting business when it comes to law enforcement just doesn’t work any longer. It’s time for fresh new ideas, ideas that I plan on speaking with the community about in the upcoming months ahead.”

Born and raised in Hopkins County and being in law enforcement for almost 15 years with a background in Criminal Justice, Sanderson has a colossal amount of experience and is familiar with his home area, that will help provide excellent services for our community.

“My true passion is to serve and protect the people of Hopkins County,” expressed Sanderson. “It’s about the Sheriff and deputies working together with the people, communities, Judge Executives, Fiscal Court, mayors, councils, judges, attorneys, other law enforcement agencies, fire departments, ambulance personnel and all other first responders so we can help solve problems in each community and in our county. We are all in this together and it’s time we worked on these things together for the people.”

The position of the Sheriff is an elected position. “Once the election is over, politics must stop. Law enforcement and politics don’t mix,” Sanderson also expressed.

Currently Sanderson resides in Hopkins County with his wife, Amy, and their two Children, Abby and Will. “Since summer is here, I have been spending time with the kids, and doing lots of projects around the house that I wasn’t able to do while working full-time. But mostly spending time with the kids,” stated Sanderson. “In the weeks to come, I will be going back to work.”

Matt Sanderson would like the community to know, “I look forward to filing for Sheriff of Hopkins County this fall and speaking with everyone about their concerns for Hopkins County.”
