First Cohort Begins WKU’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program

wku gray black borderBOWLING GREEN, Ky. (6/25/13) - The first cohort of WKU’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program is wrapping up its first class and ready to start its second this summer.

The class of 30 began its first session June 3 in the journey toward a May 2016 graduation, according to program Director Harvey Wallmann.

“There is a lot of excitement with the students and faculty as we start the program and prepare to move into a state-of-the-art facility on the Medical Center campus for the fall semester,” he said.

The PT program will join the School of Nursing in The Medical Center-WKU Health Sciences Complex, a 73,000-square-foot facility that will open in August. The Medical Center is constructing the new facility to house the university’s programs and to provide educational space for the hospital.

“With the onset of the fall semester, we’ll have four faculty ready to instruct in the program,” Dr. Wallmann said.

Interest in WKU’s third practice-based doctorate remains high, he said. The program received more than 200 applications and conducted 107 interviews to fill the 30 slots. Applications for the second cohort, which will be selected for summer 2014, will be accepted starting in July. The application deadline is Nov. 1 with interviews expected in February.
