MADISONVILLE, Ky. (6/30/13) – The Madisonville Police Department (MPD) and West Broadway Elementary partnered for the new MPD “Behind the Scenes” Program.

“Today is the first time we have done a program like this,” Said Lieutenant Robert Carter with MPD. “All these young people have expressed an interest in public service and law enforcement. Today has been an amazing day already as you can see by all the smiling faces.”

The students’ age group ranged from third to fifth graders. The kids started at 8:00am and finished around 3:00pm. They were able to visit the county clerk, the mayor’s office, courthouse, and dispatch. They even had a chance to watch demonstrations of a Bike Patrolman and Diego (Narcotics K9) sniff out some drugs.

“We covered a lot of ground today and awesome to see the community effort come together,” expressed Carter. “What we have done is brought these kids in to show them the daily life of a police officer beyond the going out an arresting people and making traffic stop. There are a lot of other things that we do that goes into protecting our citizens. These kids are our most valuable assets.”
